The Spanish golfer started his third round with a birdie on the third hole and continued his momentum by scoring birdies on the ninth, 11th, 15th, 16th, and 17th holes.

Spaniard Jorge Campillo took the lead after the third round of the 2023 Magical Kenya Golf Open, completed on Saturday, March 11, at Muthaiga golf course.

Campillo shot an impressive 8-under 63 during the third round to improve his overall score to 13-under, ahead of 78 other golfers who made the cut.

The Spanish golfer started his third round with a birdie on the third hole and continued his momentum by scoring birdies on the ninth, 11th, 15th, 16th, and 17th holes.

He also managed to score an eagle on the par 5 hole 2. Campillo's performance in the third round significantly improved from his first and second-round scores of two-under 69 and three-under 68, respectively.

Elvira Nacho, another professional from Spain who had led on day two, slipped to joint 12th after a 2-over 73 in the third round.

Meanwhile, Kenya's young professional Muthai Kibugu slipped to joint 44th after a level par score in round three.

A total of 156 golfers, including Uganda's professional Ronald Rugumayo, took part in the championship, which is also part of the European tour.

The tournament, marking its 54th edition, was officially launched by Hon Ababu Namwamba, the Kenyan cabinet secretary of Youth Affairs- sports and the arts.

The championship, marking its 54th edition and part of the European tour, attracted 156 golfers, including Uganda's professional, Ronald Rugumayo, who unfortunately failed to make the cut into the money bracket.

The competition has a total kitty of €1,750,000 and is sponsored by Absa Kenya, which announced a Ksh 70,000,000 sponsorship.

The fourth and final day of the championship will take place on Sunday, March 12.
