GOLF Eliakim Maina wins inaugural Corporate Masters Match play in Mombasa

Maina beat a field of 12 finalists who participated in the final lap of the series that has been running for three months.

Eliakim Maina has emerged as the overall winner of Corporate Masters Match play after scooping a total of 80 gross at Par 71 Mombasa Golf Club at the weekend 

Maina beat a field of 12 finalists who participated in the final lap of the series that has been running for three months.

The winner overcame over 100 golfers to emerge victorious ahead of Peter Maregwa who posted 82 gross.

Coming third was Patrick Karanja 86 gross, Symon Lariak 89 gross and Jabez Ojowa with 90 gross.

Others were Eryq Muriithi with 91 gross and Ken Lucas 97 gross.

Female golfer Shirley Cheptoo managed 108 gross.

The Mombasa tournament drew the curtain on the golfing extravaganza that had adopted an innovative and fierce competition format that saw golfers competing in a unique way.

In a changed format of match play, the Corporate Masters unleashed a different mode in the three months tourney that featured six groups.

At the conclusion of the event, Director of Marketing at Corporate Masters Mr. Martin Kinyua expressed gratitude to the golfers and the sponsors for making the event successful.

“We mark the grand finale of the season one of the Corporate Masters Match Play and our 12th event of the Corporate Masters Golf series. This journey owes its success to our partners who have been with us over the past two years,” said Kinyua.

Looking ahead, Kinyua shared the plans for Season 2, stating, " the upcoming season commencing in January, will unite players from Nairobi and Mombasa in separate match play series, culminating in a thrilling final in Nairobi.”

Key among the sponsors is Glenlivet whisky from Pernod Ricard.
