The Uganda Badminton Challenge, which gets underway on 22nd February at the MTN Arena Lugogo, will also see players earn points for the 2024 Paris Olym

Fadilah Mohammed Rafi, Uganda's top female badminton player, won't have any time to celebrate her latest achievement.

The 19-year-old, who won gold - Uganda's first ever - at the Africa mixed badminton meet, which was recently held in Johannesburg, South Africa, will now shift her attention to the Uganda badminton challenge, but she highlights that she is ready, although it won't be easy.

"Playing the Uganda International Challenge after the All Africa recently is going to be a bit different because we have top players from Asia, Europe and other parts of the world," Fadilah noted.

"So of course, as African players, we have to work harder to be able to compete against the other top players. I see myself going for more rounds in the main draw. It will be very useful for me."

The Uganda Badminton Chief Executive Officer, Simon Muganga, revealed that all expected participating players have touched base, and the competition is good to go.

“We are set. Over 49 countries, with over 200 players, have already arrived. A team manager's meeting and the event draws will be held on Monday evening," Muganga said.

"We've also installed cameras for easy monitoring for the empires and line judges. This is an international tournament, so we have top players here."

The Uganda Badminton Challenge, which gets underway on 22nd February at the MTN Arena Lugogo, will also see players earn points for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

At least 30 Ugandan players will be expected to participate, but Muganga explains why the number of Ugandan players has reduced.

"We entered 90 Ugandan players, but this tournament has attracted highly ranked, top-seeded players, so some of our unranked players will have to play a qualifier while others couldn't make the cut."

Uganda will be counting on Fadilah Mohammed Rafi, who is expected to lead Team Uganda.
