This comes off as good news since Kenya was under suspension for the last two years after failing to conduct elections in the past seven years.

The dates for the long-awaited Kenya Swimming Federation elections have been announced by FINA Kenya Stabilisation Secretariat team leader, Michael Otieno.

As reported by The Star, the elections are scheduled for July 8 at the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani. Otieno revealed that World Aquatics has given the federation a green light which gives the Stabilisation Committee a week’s extension from the earlier deadline which was June 30.

This comes off as good news since Kenya was under suspension for the last two years after failing to conduct elections in the past seven years. This was due to the resignation of long-serving chairman Ben Ekumbo.

“World Aquatics has given us the go-ahead. Our mandate was to conclude at the end of the month and we hope that come the next month, we will return the sport to its owners,” Otieno said.

The Elections Board is also set to be announced on Saturday, June 17 with the mandate of conducting the polls.

“The board members will be announced on Saturday with the aim of conducting elections in a fair and transparent manner,” he said.

Otieno, however, did not disclose how many counties have so far registered for the elections. He noted that it will be ‘premature’ to touch on such matters as it was something intended for the Elections Board to announce.

“The polls will be held under the new Constitution and my hope is that stakeholders, coaches, teachers, parents, clubs, and counties can seize the moment and hold the elections so that sport can move forward,” he added.
