The SF-23 builds on the progress the team made with last year's F1-75 car, having won four races and secured 12 pole positions with the latter.

Both team drivers Leclerc and Sainz took to the team’s Fiorano track following the launch to do the cars first laps in front of fans.

Speaking on the test drive Leclerc said: " It felt good. The first kilometres of this new project, after doing so many kilometres on the simulator, it feels special." as per The Sun.

" Everything went smoothly.

"Obviously, with two laps it's difficult to go into details but I already gave my feedback to the engineers once I was in the car to get the first feeling." he added.

Despite the positive signs early on, Ferrari failed to take advantage of their promising start to the season last year with technical issues getting in their way, allowing rivals Red Bull literally cruise to the constructors title as well as the championship title.

Mattia Binotto stepped down as team principal before Christmas and has been replaced by former Alfa Romeo chief Frédéric Vasseur.

The 54-year-old Frenchman is fully aware pressure is on him to capitalise on the momentum that the team has built up over recent seasons as they seek for success since winning the double in 2007, before retaining the constructor’s title the following year.

"I'm really convinced that Ferrari today, and, for sure, my experience is limited to the last two weeks, but we have everything to win," Vasseur told the media as per Motorsport.

He added: "We have to put everything together to do a good job, but we have everything to be able to win.

"You can have a look at the results of the last decades that the wheel is always running, and it's just a matter of continuous improvement for me."

The new Formula 1 season gets underway in March as Ferrari look to replicate their bright start to the last campaign when they travel to Bahrain.
