In the edition, the team failed to reach a podium finish but they will be keen to change the script.
Beach Handball star Phiona Wandera has fired warning shots at their opponents ahead of the Africa Beach Games scheduled for June in Tunisia.
Wandera was part of Team Kenya at the 2019 Africa Beach Games on the Island of Sal in Cape Verde but the team did not finish on the podium. However, Wandera believes that they are better prepared for this year’s edition and they will be looking forward to a podium finish.
The event being a qualifier for the World Beach Games in August, Wandera noted that they don’t have a choice but to perform better as they will also be seeking to also grace the global event.
“In 2019, we were going there for the first time and we didn’t have much experience but we are ready for this year’s edition. We want to win gold and we are working hard towards achieving our target. I know we can achieve that,” she said, as quoted by KTN Sport.

The 2019 Africa Beach Games saw Kenya manage a 12th-place finish in the medal table with three medals (one silver and two bronze).
Wandera added that the Kenya Beach Games held last month acted as a build-up as they seek to shine at the two events next in line.
However, it has not been an easy run for her considering her training mates are based in Mombasa and she stays in Nairobi.
“I have to go to Mombasa over the weekend for training and it is very expensive. That’s the major challenge we are facing at the moment because players live in different parts of the country,” she narrated.
