Team manager Uganda National Hockey team, Bridget Baine, expressed her disappointment through her official Twitter handle with the state of the hockey grounds after the just concluded Tusker Lite neon street rave that happened on 25th February.

The talk that Ugandan athletes lack enough sports facilities has been thrown around for a while now.

The available facilities, at least those that most athletes access, like the Lugogo sports complex, compete with a busy events calendar, leaving the already dilapidated facilities in bad traits.

Team manager Uganda National Hockey team, Bridget Baine, expressed her disappointment through her official Twitter handle with the state of the hockey grounds after the just concluded Tusker Lite neon street rave that happened on 25th February.

"This is very painful; the hockey fraternity respects the events held at the hockey grounds," Baine told Pulse Sports.

"But, sadly, the pitch gets decorated with broken bottles, destroyed by stages and cigarettes thrown all over after events."

"Sadly, it's the hockey fraternity that cleans up to be able to play, which affects the umpires and players' schedules," she added.

Baine called out the National Council of Sports and state minister for sports Peter Ogwang to rescue them: "We love our sport as much as we love to party."

"But let's meet halfway; we request them (event organizers) to respect and clean the grounds. We love the sport and want to give our best for it."

"It's a kind plea to everyone using the hockey pitch to respect and take care of it," she added.

The Hockey grounds in Lugogo are the only recognized hockey pitch in Uganda. The Uganda Hockey Association uses the facility to host the top-flight league and other competitions.

At some point in 2022, the Uganda Cricket Association could not access the Lugogo Cricket Oval due to several bookings of different events that had come to perform for revealers.
