This year’s event marks the 70th anniversary since the rally first happened in the country in 1953.
It’s all systems go for the WRC Safari Rally as H.E President William Ruto on Wednesday, June 21, flagged off the customary shakedown in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
The rally is set to kick off on Thursday morning at the Uhuru Park Grounds driving through the Kasarani Spectator Stage and finally making its way to Naivasha for three days of the grueling battle of Man versus Machine.

He added that it was a great decision to bring back the Safari Rally and he noted that it unites people in a unique way.
This year’s event marks the 70th anniversary since the rally first happened in the country in 1953 and due to that, the President also set history, riding in a WRC rally car full throttle.
The President noted that the Safari Rally has contributed a singular spectacle to global motorsport and that the 2023 Championship edition will continue the tradition.
"This year's rally continues a magnificent tradition that has turned it into a challenging yet exciting and distinguished fixture in the global calendar," he said.
This Ministry of Sports will also be sponsoring four teams of all-women-crew, in addition to supporting a team of youth to take part in the heritage event.
