The women's national junior rugby team to the Youth Commonwealth Games has its work cut out as the young lionesses brace up to tackle some of the best rugby teams from all over the world.
The Games are scheduled for August 4 to 11 in Trinidad and Tobago and all hopes will be resting on the young squad to deliver as they face off against strong teams from Canada, Australia, and Fiji. In preparation for the event, the team reported to camp on Tuesday in order to sharpen their talons.

Paris 2024 Olympic Rugby Qualifiers: Nigeria Faces Zambia, Kenya, Namibia
The Olympic qualifiers will hold on September 16 and 17 at Harare Sports Club, Zimbabwe.
The team of 18 is under the tutelage of coach Sarah Otieno who is also the rugby development officer at Kenya Rugby Union and already has a plan on how to best help the young ladies.
“When we broke camp in April, they (players) had a lesson plan that they needed to go work out on. So, when they came in, my work is to make sure that whatever it is that they were given they were able to execute,” she explained.
At the end of the training camp, five of the 18 players in the camp will be dropped before the team departs. Coach Otieno is confident that before then, all the players will have acquired all the necessary skills.
“When I say role play, we will do the kick-offs, the scrums, line-outs, formations, and patterns. As time goes by we will work on defense patterns for players to understand what they need to do. It is a lot of learning towards the end,” she elaborated.
