The winner of the tournament will receive a prize of US$250 (92,000 Ugandan shillings), while the runner-up will receive $150 (55,000 Ugandan shillings).

Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania will send over 100 weightlifters to compete in the upcoming Pearl of Africa Weightlifting Cup.

The tournament will take place on March 12th in Kisugu, Uganda, and will feature age categories rather than weight categories for athletes aged 10 and above.

The Kisugu Unified Gym, which is organizing the event, aims to promote the sport of weightlifting in Uganda.

The winner of the tournament will receive a prize of US$250 (92,000 Ugandan shillings), while the runner-up will receive $150 (55,000 Ugandan shillings).

The participants will have the opportunity to showcase their talents on live television as the tournament will be broadcast on various networks, giving them exposure to audiences beyond their home countries.

Ivan Masakwa, the organizer of the tournament, expressed his confidence that the weightlifters who participate in the tournament will not regret it.

“The players who will participate in the tournament will sell their talents in different countries because the tournament will be live on various networks so that people abroad can see them,” Masakwa said.

He noted that the tournament will provide an opportunity for the athletes to showcase their skills to a wider audience, which may lead to future opportunities to compete in other countries.

Lydia Nakidde shared her excitement for the upcoming tournament and her determination to win the prize money.

Nakidde has already started training hard in preparation for the event, and hopes to make a strong impression on the judges.
