Abaka picked up the ticket at the 19th African Road Cycling Championship in Ghana after winning a gold medal in the Class B Tendam elite men’s category.
Abaka appeal for improvement of Sports in Nigeria
Abaka has urged the Nigeria Cycling Federation (NCF) to work to raise the level of competition in the nation.
Abaka added that Cyclist face difficulties obtaining decent bicycles, regular contests, and good welfare packages, all of which are crucial for their advancement in the sport,
According to him, “Nigerian cyclists would appreciate the federation if it gives more attention to the development of the sport. Nigeria has talented cyclists, who, with adequate support, can be worthy ambassadors at international tournaments."
We are in Talks with Sponsors - NCF
NCF board member Femi Thomas has revealed that the federation has started to search for sponsors for the athletes.
The chairman of the Ogun State Cycling Association promised that this year would be better than last for cyclists and officials, citing NCF programs to improve the sport.
“The federation is already discussing with sponsors how to help in taking cycling to greater heights. We recently acquired a vehicle (Ford Range), which is part of our rebranding strategy to attract sponsors,” Thomas said.
At the 19th African Road Cycling Championships in Ghana, Nigeria was represented by 12 cyclists (11 women and 1 man).
