The Nile Special National Pool Championship is returning after a five-year miss.
Pool players and fanatics have something to smile about after the Pool Association of Uganda and Nile Special announced the return of the National Open after a five-year miss.
The 2023 edition was unveiled on Wednesday morning at the Brand House in Bugolobi, with PAU and the beer company announcing a shs340 million sponsorship.
The function was graced by the Pool Association of Uganda president Bob Trubish and Douglas Karema, the national events and assets manager Nile Special.
The event returns for the first time since 2018 when Mansoor Bwanika and Ritah Namusiima beat Simon Lubulwa and Rashidah Muteesi, respectively, to drive home the ultimate prize.

“We had done ten years consecutively before the five-year hiatus, but we’re now back with a bang,” Karema said on behalf of Nile Special.
“We’ve seen pool grow from a game that people played in the evening to grow into something big; It has become a big sport and Nile Special is happy to be back,” he added.
Trubish thanked the company for resuscitating the biggest pool event in the country before unveiling the package.
“The direct investment this time round is shs.340 million that will be injected into the tournament by Nile Breweries. This is just a resumption of the long-term relationship,” he said.
Qualifiers
The winners of the men's and ladies’ categories will win trophies and vehicles to be awarded on the final day on November 11th at Lugogo Indoor Arena.

The mini-qualifiers will start on June 24th and will run across 52 districts and regions before the grand finale at Lugogo.
It will be 128 men and 32 ladies to play at the final, with the top eight and four seeds in the men's and ladies’ charts respectively given a bye to the final.
