In an enthralling showdown at the Uganda Golf Club, Kitante, Peace Kabasweka emerged as the champion of the Ladies' category in the 2023 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Championship, capturing the hearts of many.

As Kabasweka holed out on the 18th green, loud cheers and jubilation resonated around the course, a testament to her stellar performance and unwavering support.

Over three days, she carded a gross of 221, just one stroke ahead of her nearest competitor, Iddy Hussein Madina, who posted 222.

Kabasweka's exemplary play saw her score a 4-under 68 on the first day, a 3-over 75 on the second, and 78 in the concluding round.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Kabasweka expressed: “The competition was fierce, but I managed to triumph at the end. I owe a huge thank you to my caddie, fans, family, and sponsors for their unwavering support."

Meanwhile, in the Seniors Open, Steven Katwiremu clinched the title in a gripping sudden-death playoff, outpacing Onyango Matata Godfrey and Bagabo Joseph. Malawian Roza Mbilizi secured the top spot in the Ladies Senior category.

The winners were celebrated in a grand manner, with Uganda Breweries Ltd Managing Director Andrew Kilonzo and the Guest of Honour, Security Minister Gen. Jim Muhwezi, presenting them with the coveted trophies. 

Additionally, they received Johnnie Walker Green and Black Label Bottles, heightening the joy of their victories.

Making the event even more memorable, title sponsor Johnnie Walker established a Hospitality Village, providing an enhanced experience beyond the traditional 19th Hole.

The 2023 Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open Championship isn't over yet. The Amateur Open is set to commence on Wednesday, leading up to the climax. The Professional category, which runs from October 24 to 28.
