This year’s event marks the 70th anniversary since the rally first happened in the country in 1953.
He was dressed in the official gear, a fireproof overall, and a crash helmet, and had Frenchman Pierre-Louis Loubet drive him through the 5.4km Ndulele Conservancy shakedown.
During the time he was being driven in the car, the President was startled by the sharp turns and his face was in utter shock throughout the drive and the speed at which Loubet was driving the Ford Puma Hybrid Rally1 car.
“Wow…this thing is fast…oh my goodness. This thing is crazy but it’s an experience you cannot forget. From the sheer speed, you can hardly see the road and the bends. These guys are really professional…it is out of this world,” the Head of State exclaimed.
He revealed that he was not certain about wanting to be driven in a rally car again due to the first-hand experience he had. “If you ask me whether I’ll want to do this again…I’m not sure,” he said.

He added that it was a great decision to bring back the Safari Rally and he noted that it unites people in a unique way.
