"A former St. Mary's School, Strathmore Leos, and Impala flanker, he also represented Kenya U20 at the 2009 World Rugby Junior Trophy.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time. May the Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace.”

On their part, Impala RFC announced his demise on Sunday, January 7 but did not reveal the cause of his death. They went on to say they will provide more information once the family unveils.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, we take this chance with a heavy heart to inform you that our brother Anthony Oyugi rested yesterday.

“We shall keep you posted as we wait for more information from the family. We the Impala family would like to pass our sincere condolences to the family,” the club said.

Meanwhile, the late Oyugi was a very vital part of the rugby fraternity and will be remembered for many things including his love for the game since his high school days at St. Mary’s High School to Strathmore Leos and later joining Impala RFC.

In 2009, Oyugi was named to represent the country in the World Under-20 squad and he also led the team to win the provisional title and even took part in the Dubai 7s school Category.

In 2011, Oyugi played at the Bamburi Rugby Super Series when he featured the 2004 and 2006 champions SDV Transami Cheetahs alongside Biko Adema and Innocent Simiyu.

He has been part of the Impala family until the time of his death and featured in the Kenya Cup Safari 7s and also the National 7s team.
