The 2023 edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Associations (FEASSSA) games will take place in Huye, Rwanda, instead of Kigali as originally planned.

Initially, the FEASSSA executive initially chose Kigali as the host city, but several sports facilities in the capital, including Amahoro and Nyamirambo stadiums, are currently undergoing renovation.
Effectively, Huye has been chosen as the new host city due to its superior facilities, including the Huye Stadium, which was constructed in 2016, and the Huye University facilities.
FEASSSA President Justus Mugisha said thar Huye provided the best possibility for hosting after also looking at other alternatives including Musanze and Rubavu.
“We have looked at different areas regarding the best hosting city and we zeroed in on Huye because of the facilities there, so Huye will be the place to go to for this year’s games,” Mugisha explained.
The naming of Rwanda as the 2023 FEASSA games host came after initially named hosts Burundi declined the offer as they failed to beat the deadline for confirmation of acceptance.
The FEASSSA games bring together school teams from six member countries, including Burundi, South Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Uganda.
Uganda has won only three overall titles out of the past 20 events, with Kenya being the dominant country.
However, last year, Uganda won 18 gold medals compared to Kenya's five, suggesting that they may be a strong contender at this year's games.
The games are scheduled to take place in September this year and are expected to attract a large number of participants and spectators from across East Africa.
