The Southwest Gymnastics Championships will be held at the National Stadium in Lagos from April 25 to 27, 2023.
All plans are set, as the 2023 Southwest Gymnastics Championships will start on Tuesday in Lagos.
The championships will be held at the National Stadium in Lagos from April 25 to 27, 2023, and over 50 athletes have been listed.
According to the organizers, the three-day championships will feature gymnasts from five of the states that make up the region, including Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, and the hosts, Lagos State.
The athletes will compete in the eight-15 years age category and 16 to 18 years class.
The championship will be used to promote Gymnastics - Association
The Chairperson of the Southwest Gymnastics Association, Dr. Omowunmi Olalere, noted that the initiative would raise awareness, spark youth enthusiasm for the sport in the Southwest, and train them for upcoming contests.
She added that the region had fallen behind other zones in terms of competition, which was why she decided to create the championship to reverse the trend.
According to her, “As the chairperson, it is my resolve to change the narrative by developing and popularising gymnastics within the Southwest.
“That influenced my decision to accept the Southwest Chairperson position in the first place. I plead with all stakeholders in the Southwest to join me in this crusade so that together we can change the narrative,” she said.
