The midfielder roamed the streets of Nyahururu, Nakuru, and Nairobi after fleeing the bandit-infested area of Baragoi due to the rampant cattle rustling.
The facility was closed over two years ago with the aim of giving it a new face but work has taken longer than expected with Nakuru governor Susan Kihika saying last month that it is nearly 70 percent done.
“During the inspection, the team thoroughly examined various sections of the stadium, including the pitch, changing rooms, VIP arena, commentator area, and the media podium. Also in the review was the project timelines and quality assurance measures,” the county government said on Tuesday following the latest inspection.
“While the team identified areas that require urgent attention, they also provided valuable recommendations for improvements. This includes the need for additional work on the pitch and running track to meet international standards and the use of high-quality turf and an advanced irrigation system.”
Kihika had in March this year said that the work, which started in April 2021, was 65 percent done on the stadium which is projected to cost Ksh650 million.
Residents had complained about the delay although Nakuru City Manager Gitau Thabanja explained that restructuring of some utilities that had passed through the stadium, such as power lines and water pipes which supply water to the households neighbouring the stadium, was the reason behind the delay.
The latest update comes at a time when the country is grappling with a lack of stadia with Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums closed for renovation in readiness for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations if the EAC Pamoja Bid of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania is successful.
