CRICKET Tanzania head coach tips Kenyan youngsters as next 'big thing'

Kamande was impressed by Team Kenya's game at the just-concluded ICC U19 Men's Cricket World Cup Africa qualifier.

Tanzania cricket head coach Jimmy Kamande has lauded the Kenya Under-19 side for their prowess at the just-concluded International Cricket Council U19 Men's Cricket World Cup Africa qualifier which happened in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Kamande, a former Kenyan cricketer was impressed by how the youngsters displayed their skills and noted that they are indeed the future of Cricket in Kenya.

During the continental event, Team Kenya managed big wins over Nigeria, Uganda, and Sierra Leone. They only lost one match to Namibia and their other match against Tanzania was abandoned due to the rain and the two were forced to share points.

“If they get well-taken care of they are definitely going places. They have some quality spinners who are without a doubt match winners.

"The federation should walk with them and not let them disappear because most of the time we let them disappear…it’s all about watching them closely,” he said.

He added that it is not easy to get quality batsmen and Cricket Kenya should invest in the youngsters who impressed in Tanzania.

“If we let them go that will be a huge loss to Kenya since it’s not even easy to get quality batsmen around. They are gaining experience and if we lose them, all this becomes a waste.

"Cricket Kenya should pick the promising youngsters and ensure they nurture their talents to ensure continuity of the sport,” he said.
