The Junior Golf Foundation US Kids Local Tour promises to get the best out of Kenya’s talented young golfers
The Junior Golf Foundation US Kids Local Tour is back with the Spring Tour teeing off at the Limuru Country Club.
Despite the chilly and foggy weather conditions, the turnout was impressive with more than 150 junior golfers taking part.
The boys 13-14 years category produced a thriller with the top four players separated by only three strokes.
Kayden Wissanji who finished sixth at the 2023 Kenya Junior Strokeplay Championship earlier in the week was the winner with a score of +6 for 78 strokes.
He was only one stroke better than Tsevi Soni who played 79 to take up the second position. Yuvraj Rajput and Tsorav Soni were tied for third position after playing 81 strokes.
In the boys 15-18 years, Kiunjuri Mathu who finished tied for 27th position at the Junior strokeplay championship was a much better player scoring 82 to emerge the winner.
He was three strokes better than Junaid Manji who finished an impressive fifth at the strokeplay championship. Tyler Mwangi’s 92 earned him a third-place position in the category.
In the girls 13-14 years category, Marya Nyambura was once again in a class of her own as she played 89 to win the category to extend her overall lead in the tour. Hena Shah was four strokes behind for second place with Yolanda Yu third.
“I have been in school most of the time and picked up golf again on Monday and I’m happy with the win. It was tough because of the fog; we were not seeing the fairway properly but I’m glad I still got a good score,” observed Nyambura after her win.
In the girls 15-18 category, Navya Nagda emerged the overall winner with a score of 93 with Karnika Sharma in second, Hazel Oduor in Third and Meishan Wang fourth.
“I would consider it not very good today, but I'm happy I came first. It was very foggy and I couldn’t see anything, I was just hitting and hoping for the best. I was hoping to play much better, but I couldn’t control the weather,” said Nagda.
