Fahad Ssewankambo is a household name in the local pool scene.

The ‘King of the Red Carpet’ has been one of the best players at the famous Nile Special Pool Open Championship, winning it twice in 2014 and 2017.

A lot has changed in the pool scene since that time, with new entrants like Ceasar Chandiga and Mansoor Bwanika taking over.

Ssewankambo acknowledges that the new kids on the block have brought in a new flavour and changed the game, but he is confident that his decade-long experience will see him through this year’s Open.

“The game has evolved a bit with players adapting a more offensive approach, but I am adjusting the style to match them,” Ssewankambo told Pulse Sports ahead of the Kampala qualifiers on Friday.

The 28-year-old is expected to start his qualifiers at the Pacify Hotel in Wakaliga.

“I expect a tough battle for the top honours but I believe my experience will be valuable when the going gets tough,” he adds.

Sewankambo beat Ivan Kanyesige to win his maiden championship in 2014 but lost to Humphrey Nsubuga in the quarters in 2015 and 2016 before returning to thrash William Busingye in 2017.

His fortunes have dwindled henceforth from a seed one in the country to 70th this year.
