Simbas will be facing the San Clemente Rhinos in their opening encounter on Saturday.

Kenya Simbas head coach, Jerome Paarwater says he will use the 2023 Currie Cup First Division as a platform for the start of a journey in their pursuit of a maiden Rugby World Cup ticket having missed out on this year’s edition.

Simbas will launch their campaign when they face the San Clemente Rivals on Saturday 15 April.

Speaking at the team’s naming session, Paarwater said he was looking forward to interacting with the squad for the next few weeks.

“I am very glad that the guys are back here. We have seen the importance over the years for the guys to participate in the Currie Cup, some tough games and that is what we want. We still have a very new squad and very new management, but I am looking forward to the first game tomorrow.

“The purpose of playing in this Currie Cup is to seek qualification for the 2027  Rugby World Cup. It is a four-year journey for us.”

The national rugby 15's side had missed their opening two matches against Boland Cavaliers and Leopards due to lack of funds but were reportedly bailed out by the Western Province Rugby Union.

Kenya were at risk of being expelled from the league had they missed their third fixture after travelling late to South Africa.
