Heathen's tries were scored by Santos Senteza, Shanoon Monoko, and Lawrence Ssebuliba, who crossed the white line twice, while Edgar Kairu scored Mongers' only try in the game.

The Platinum Credit Heathens picked up a 27-11 bonus point win over Mongers at the Kyadondo Rugby grounds on Saturday.

Heathen's tries were scored by Santos Senteza, Shanoon Monoko, and Lawrence Ssebuliba, who crossed the white line twice, while Edgar Kairu scored Mongers' only try in the game.

The first half was action-packed, with Mongers taking the lead twice, but Heathens managed to fight back; an Edgar Kairu penalty gave Mongers a 03-00 lead.

Lawrence Ssebuliba made amends with his first try on the day, which gave the hosts the lead at 05-03; Chris Lubanga's conversion went wide.

Edgar Kairu then made amends for an earlier missed penalty when he crossed the white line to help Mongers retake the lead to 08-05. However, Angana Paul's conversion went wide.

Heathens knew they had to engage another gear, and they did; Santos Ssenteza's try restored the hosts' lead to 10-08 once again, and Chris Lubanga buried the conversion to make it 12-08.

Shannon Monoko then sealed it before the break with another try which was converted by Chris Lubanga, Heathens headed into the break leading 19-11.

Not even Chris Lubanga's injury mid-way through the second half affected the hosts' rhythm as Michael Amollo scored a penalty.

At the same time, Lawrence Ssebuliba crossed the white line for his second try, which Sula Ngobi converted.

"Both teams came with the target of taking the day” Heathens head coach Mohammad Athiyo told Pulse Sports.

“We put up a good fight, it's fortunate that we wanted it more, and we took the day.”

"We all knew this season would come down to the wire; anything is possible, so we shall simply wait for the final weekend; if we win, then it's ok; if we don't, then we will have done our best."

For the Mongers, switching off in the second half cost them, according to fly-half Edgar Kairu.

"We actually played better in the first half, but after the break, we switched off, and the attitude went low; we also did a lot of knock-ons, and that's how we lost it,” Kairu noted.

Elsewhere, Kobs and Pirates also picked up bonus point victories.
