Referee Ronald Wutimba was forced to award a penalty try against Kobs and end the Nile Special Premier League clash with Platinum Credit Heathens.
With scores tied at 12-all, Heathens were awarded a penalty in a promising position.
Kobs players protested the call and ensured the penalty was not taken.
In the end, the referee awarded a penalty try to the hosts and blew the final whistle to hand Heathens a 19-12 victory.
The victory was enough to send Heathens top of the table with 59 points.
Kobs falter
The search for a league win at Kyadondo will stretch into another season.
Having last won at the venue in 2014, Kobs dominated phases and the game, but Heathens executed on their visits to visitors’ territory.
Kobs thought they were through for the opening when Justin Kimono dished out to James Ijongat, but the referee called for an earlier knock-on.
The visitors got the opportunity to score first with a penalty, and Joseph Aredo made no mistake (03-00).
The hosts got the response they wanted, a good run from Claude Otema setting up Innocent Gwokto for the game’s opening try.
Chris Lubanga missed the conversion, but Heathens had a 05-03 lead.
Kobs responded instantly through Aredo, who converted his second penalty for the visitors to lead 06-05.
A knock-on by Kalema inside the Heathens’ half invited Kobs pressure, but Daudi Ssemwami knocked the ball forward with the try line right in his face.
Santos Ssenteza tackled and did not roll away to give Kobs another penalty; Aredo remained perfect for extending the lead to 09-05.
Brian Makalama’s charges went into the half-time break with a four-point lead (09-05).
The second half started with Aredo’s attempted drop goal that was unsuccessful.
Ijongat also unsuccessfully tried his luck with a drop goal as Kobs pinned Heathens deep in their half.
When Heathens' chance to attack came, it ended with Trevor Ochan’s try, which Lubanga converted for the hosts to lead 12-09.
With Heathens taking advantage, Kobs introduced Pius Ogena to replace Alhajji Manano.
Heathens were momentarily reduced to 14 when substitute Michael Amolo was sent to the sin bin.
The visitors had the opportunity to level matters when they were awarded a penalty deep inside the Heathens territory but Aredo opted for a scratch-and-go.
The hosts defended their line to deny Legends outfit.
Aredo’s fourth penalty leveled matters at 12-all but a late penalty try handed Heathens all five points.
It was a game that will be remembered for one decision made by the referee rather than what happened in the 80 minutes.
