RUGBY Hippos' Atibu promises improvements amidst moments of pressure

The team had promised to push the rugby trinity of Kobs, Platinum Credit Heathens and Stanbic Black Pirates but have lost to two already.

Jinja Hippos coach Saidi Atibu has admitted that his team is under immense pressure to perform but believes they will find a quick remedy to turn around their fortunes.

The Hippos were in cloud nine after a sterling performance in the Nile Special Rugby 7s but have failed to replicate that in the premiership.

“The pressure is on and we can’t hide from it,” Atibu told Pulse Sports.

The team had promised to push the rugby trinity of Kobs, Platinum Credit Heathens and Stanbic Black Pirates but have lost to two already.

They have lost three of their four games to Makerere Impis, Stanbic Black Pirates and Kobs and won only one against Mongers away in Entebbe.

“We expected that after the sevens, we would be able to shake at least one of the three big boys but we have lost to two already," he noted.

Atibu believes his team is playing well but blames a lack of concentration towards the end of the games.

“We could’ve won the last two games against Pirates and Kobs because we had a chance by halftime but we lost it towards the end."

Atibu added: "We have to be consistent and probably do timely substitutions to keep the boys active throughout the game."

"Some of the losses were due to the attitude which was a bit low but we’re encouraging them to step up.”

Hippos welcome Heathens in Jinja on Saturday in their next fixture.
