Jinja Hippos stepped up their fight to retain their fourth position in the Nile Special Premiership with a resounding 36-16 win over Rhinos at the Dams Waters Ground in Jinja.

Emma Kinyera split the upright with an early penalty, then scored Deus Nkera's converted try to give the hosts an early 10-5 lead midway first half as they sent shivers down the vibrant Hippos fans' spine and call the men in white and gold into action.

Tawfiq Bagalana and Bruno Kisule converted their tries in succession to give the hosts a 17-13 lead into the break.

From there on, in the second stanza, Hippos were more determined and controlled the entire game.

Isaac Rujumba, Bagalana and Andrew Odhiambo all crossed the line in a performance that left the day's officials with a headache on who to award the man-of-the-match. Eventually, they settled on Julius Opio.

Hippos will now have to get maximum points against Walukuba Barbarians in the final fame of the season when they meet next week if they're to keep off Toyota Buffaloes off their fourth place.

The Buffaloes beat Rams 16-8 in the other game played at Kyadondo grounds.
