On 10th February, Rujumba shared a thread of tweets in which he explained that his club the Jinja Hippos, who won the Nile Special sevens circuit received half the prize money without explanation.
The world over, athletes are reprimanded for discipline-related matters such as doping or violent conduct. Well, Isaac Rujumba's case is different.
The Jinja Hippos player tweeted himself into trouble with the Uganda Rugby Union indicating he could be suspended for up to a year.
On 10th February, Rujumba shared a thread of tweets in which he explained that his club the Jinja Hippos, who won the Nile Special sevens circuit received half the prize money without explanation.
“Remember that money the Hippos were supposed to receive from Nile Special for winning the 7’s? that UGX 8M that they chopped 4M from under dubious circumstances? Well, we still haven’t received it,” one of a series of tweets read.
Rujumba has admitted to sharing 'misleading' tweets on his official handle, an offence that could, depending on the outcome of the disciplinary action, have the Nile Special Rugby Premiership player suspended for a while.
"Reference is made to the judicial hearing held on February 27, 2023, in which Mr Rujumba a playing member of the Jinja Hippos Club put the sport of rugby in disrepute following numerous misleading tweets (posted on 10th February 2023),” read part of the statement.
“Isaac Rujumba pleaded guilty to the charges,” the statement added.
The loose forward will be required to among other recommendations retract his misleading tweets and also apologize to the stakeholders that he attacked with his tweets. Failure to fulfil the terms by April 15, 2023, will attract a one-year suspension.
The former Stanbic Black Pirates player has never shied away from sharing personal opinions about how the rugby union runs the game using his known social media handles.
In 2021, Isaac Rujumba shared a detailed blog of how he was thrown off the national team by people he referred to as self-seeking officials.
He also shared another blog of how league title sponsorship monies were misused by the union officials.
As the Nile Special Rugby League returns this weekend, the Hippos who host the Rams at Dam Waters will have more to worry about.
