The sugar millers occupy top spot with 41 points, two ahead of KCB as Menengai Oilers close in on the top three
Kabras Sugar have taken leadership of the National Sevens Circuit log following their victory at the second round, the Driftwood Sevens, in Mombasa at the weekend.
The sugar millers made it back-to-back cup finals but went one better this time, edging Menengai Oilers 10-7 in sudden death, to claim their first title of the season.
Kabras had made it to the final of the season-opening Dala Sevens a week earlier where they lost 15-7 to KCB to settle for 19 points, but collected the maximum 22 points in Mombasa to take their tally to 41.

The Sugar Millers needed Jone Kubu’s penalty to win the title during a tightly-contested final at Mombasa Sports Club.
The Kakamega-based side have moved ahead of KCB by two points with the bankers on 39 points after finishing third, having been beaten 17-12 by Oilers in the cup semi-final, to dash their hopes of winning a second straight title.
Strathmore, who lost to KCB in the third-place final, are third on the log with 32 points, after managing 15 points in Mombasa with their fourth-place finish, two less than they accumulated in Kisumu, where they managed a podium finish.
However, the biggest gainers are the Oilers who finished second, up from sixth a week earlier, for fourth place on the standings with 31 points after adding 19 on the 12 they managed in Kisumu.

The player will not be available for the group stages of the Prinsloo Sevens after being sanctioned at the Driftwood tournament in Mombasa.
Gibson Weru’s side did not start the season well but their great performance in Mombasa suggest they are now ready to defend their National Sevens title and will need no motivation when playing in their home county of Nakuru in the next leg, the Prinsloo Sevens, next month.
Meanwhile, Kenya Harlequin, who dropped from fourth to sixth, are fifth on the table with 27 points, while Mwamba, who managed back-to-back fifth-place finishes, are sixth on the log just a point behind from the two rounds.
The circuit will now take a three-week break for the World Rugby Under-20 Trophy set to take place in Nairobi from July 15-30 before resuming on August 5-6 in Nakuru for the Prinsloo Sevens when Kabras will be seeking back-to-back wins as they eye a first National Sevens title since 2017
