The Kenyan star and rugby icon retires at 30 after scoring 111 tries in 68 tournaments, marking an end to a stellar 11-year career.

Kenya Sevens legend Billy Odhiambo has called time on his vibrant rugby career at just the age of 30.

After 11 years of spirited play, his journey from a promising rookie to a seasoned Kenya Sevens stalwart is a tale of hard work, passion, and unmatched skill.

The announcement came on a significant day—his 30th birthday, marking both a personal and professional milestone.

Odhiambo’s career has been nothing short of stellar, gracing the rugby field in 68 tournaments and crossing the try-line an impressive 111 times.

His contributions to the sport have solidified his position as a national icon and a beacon of excellence in the Kenyan rugby fraternity.

"As I mark my 30th Birthday and cross over to a new decade, I want to take this chance to announce my retirement from the sport that I love so much.

"God has been so good to me ever since I donned that shirt for the first time in 2012 at Port Elizabeth up until the last time in London this year. 11 good years of God’s grace and favor," he wrote.

His journey saw him become only the fourth Kenyan to breach the 100-try mark, a feat he achieved in a thrilling match against England at the Los Angeles Sevens two years ago.

In a heartfelt tribute, Odhiambo did not forget those who supported him through his journey.

"To my loving parents who have supported me throughout this whole journey, I can't thank you enough. My siblings Awuor, Tim, and Fiona, who have been in my corner—I thank you. My wife ZamZam and my sons Zafar and Zaheem, who have been my rock, you were part of my ‘why’, I thank you and I love you," he expressed with emotion.

His gratitude extended beyond family to encompass all who had been part of his rugby life.

"All my coaches, managements, mentors, teammates, and even opponents who have been part of my journey, I thank you for believing in me and making me a better man. To the fans who have stood by me and held me accountable throughout this journey, I thank you and I love you all."

Odhiambo's legacy includes a momentous try at the Los Angeles Sevens, where he showcased his signature speed and agility.

Teammate Daniel Taabu's quick thinking from a penalty tap set Odhiambo up for a dash to the try-line, sealing his place among Kenya's rugby greats.

Joining the ranks of Collins Injera, Humphrey Kayange, and Willy Ambaka, Odhiambo has etched his name in the annals of the World Rugby Sevens.

Injera, with 271 tries, Kayange with 159, and Ambaka with 131, alongside Odhiambo, represent the pinnacle of Kenyan rugby talent.
