Kenya Simbas silenced Uganda in a highly-billed Elgon Cup showdown in Kisumu to reclaim regional bragging rights following last week’s setback in Kampala
Kenya Simbas got their revenge against Uganda Rugby Cranes as they silenced them 20-13 to claim the Elgon Cup at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu on Saturday.
Simbas, who suffered a narrow 21-20 loss to the Ugandans in the Victoria Cup title decider, which doubled up as the Elgon Cup opening leg in Kampala last week, were keen to avoid lightning striking twice and duly delivered on home soil.

RUGBY Kevin Wekesa reveals key Kenya Sevens ingredient that will make them unstoppable
The 22-year-old has revealed that all players are pulling in similar directions considering most of the newbies in the Shujaa set up are roughly of the same age as he is.
Kenya went ahead after just nine minutes when Fijian-born Jone Kubu successfully kicked in a penalty for 3-0 before Elkeans Musonye extended their lead with a 12th-minute try which the Kabras Sugar utility back converted for a 10-0 advantage.
However, Kenya kept conceding penalties, an issue that let them down last week, but Uganda were not clinical enough, managing to get through just one of their five penalties up to that point.

RUGBY Shujaa co-captain Tony Omondi on why Safari Sevens is ‘crucial’ for Challenger Series
Omondi has described the upcoming Safari Sevens as “crucial” in Shujaa’s quest to be ready for the Challenger Series and the Olympic games next season.
Uganda then had two more penalties with handling errors common in Kenya’s game once more but skipper Ivan Magomu failed to convert as the Simbas took a 10-3 lead to the break.
Kubu continued from where he left off in the first half, scoring his first try of the game which he converted to put Kenya 17-3 up, before Uganda summoned enough energy to score their first try.

RUGBY Shujaa captain explains why Kenya 15s have traditionally struggled to match Sevens' standards
Vincent Onyala has detailed why South Africa have dominated African rugby in both categories, while Kenya have only seemed to do well in the Sevens version
Timothy Kisiga went over the line to reduce the arrears, with last week’s penalty hero Liam Walker converting for a 17-10 score line 18 minutes from time.
Another penalty for Uganda would see Walker make it 17-13 but Kenya had the last laugh when Kubu slotted home another penalty for a 20-13 lead six minutes before the final hooter which they held on to claim the Elgon Cup 40-34 on aggregate.

RUGBY KRU set to bid to make Safari Sevens an annual HSBC World Series leg in future
Mutai has revealed why both the East Africa Pamoja bid, as well as the plan to make Safari Sevens get back to the heights of attracting a large crowd of spectators could help the union in bidding for a HSBC World Sevens annual leg in future.
It is the first victory for Kenya against Uganda since 2019, the last time the Elgon Cup was played, when the Cranes won 17-13 in Nairobi although the second leg was not played.
Uganda have not won the Elgon Cup since 2012 with Kenya now making it five straight titles and reasserting their regional dominance after last weekend’s setback.
