Governor Wavinya Ndeti has pleaded with supporters to attend 'one of a kind' Safari Sevens rugby series that is set for Machakos from October 11 to 13.

Explained: Why 2024 Safari Sevens will be held in Machakos
The 2024 Safari Sevens tournament is set to take place in Machakos for the first time ever, rather than in Nairobi as has been the tradition.
Ndeti expressed her excitement about Machakos hosting the tournament, highlighting the county's readiness for the historic event.
“We are honored to host the Safari Sevens for the first time outside Nairobi, and Machakos is ready to deliver a world-class experience. Our county is not only prepared to showcase thrilling rugby but also our renowned warmth, hospitality, and vibrant culture,” she said.
Teams from the United Kingdom, France, Uganda, and Zimbabwe will compete at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. Over 5,000 fans are expected to grace the event with the championship poised to boost the local economy significantly.
“The decision to bring the Safari Sevens to Machakos aligns with our mission to spread the game of rugby to regions beyond Nairobi,” said Kenya Rugby Union Vice Chairman, Moses Ndale.
“This is not just about rugby; it’s about community engagement, fostering local talent, and creating economic opportunities for the people of Machakos. We believe this event will leave a lasting legacy.”
Safari Sevens has long served as a training ground for Kenya’s rugby stars, including teams like Shujaa, Morans, Lionesses, and the Cubs. Over the years, the tournament has grown in stature, attracting international teams and providing a platform for Kenyan athletes to compete at a global level.
Governor Ndeti urged residents of Machakos to embrace the opportunity and be part of the excitement. “To the people of Machakos, we invite you to come and witness this great event. Safari Sevens is not just a rugby tournament; it’s a celebration of sportsmanship and excellence. Let’s bring the energy, cheer loudly, and make this an unforgettable experience,” she insisted.
Last year’s Safari Sevens marked a triumphant return to the schedule after a hiatus in 2022. In an epic showdown at the RFUEA grounds, Kenya Sevens secured a thrilling 19-0 victory over Samurai Sevens in the final, retaining their title.
