The visitors pinned Heathens into their own half for the majority of the game and scored a second-half try to win the game.

Every time Heathens crossed into the Pirates’ half to ask tough questions on Saturday, the Sea Robbers had sufficient answers.

And in the end, the visitors passed the test to win the game and leapfrog the Heathens in the table standings.

Ivan Magomu was one of the main protagonists, his penalty helping Marvin Odongo’s side to a slim 08-06 victory.

He credits the team’s defence and discipline for the win that shook up the table standings, moving Pirates to second, Kobs to the top and Heathens to third.

“We defended well, played in the right places and kept our discipline in check,” the Rugby Cranes captain told Pulse Sports.

The visitors pinned Heathens into their own half for the majority of the game and scored a second-half try to win the game.

Heathens’ winger Michael Amolo had split the uprights on either side of Magomu’s penalty to have Muhammad Athiyo’s troops a 06-03 half-time lead.

But with the Pirates playing in the Heathens’ half, Sydney Gongodyo scored the only try of the game to hand the visitors the advantage.

There was no coming back for Heathens, and Pirates completed a season double, having won the first-round fixture 24-18 in the very first game of the season.

Work harder

The victory and Kobs’ 50-07 pummeling of Walukuba Barbarians left switched up things at the top.

The Blue Army are now top of the ten-team log with 66 points, while Pirates are second, just a point off the pace.

RUGBY Kobs have three finals to go- Ogena

Kobs lead the table with 66 points after the bonus win, one ahead of Pirates who they face on the last day. Heathens drops to third with 63 points with only three games to go.

The last three fixtures of the season will determine where the title ends up, but it is likely the winner will be determined when the two top teams meet in the final game of the campaign.

“We have to put our heads down and work harder than before,” Magomu warned.

“Hopefully, this momentum will be carried forward till the end of the season.”

Kobs will host Pirates at Legends on May 13, in what is anticipated to be the title decider.
