RUGBY Nsekuye credits early preps for Impis impressive run

Nsekuye says it's all been a planned process which has worked for Impis.

Two clubs remain unbeaten as the Nile Special Rugby League heads into matchday six; one is Makerere Impis, a surprise package thus far.

As Impis knocked down teams, so did their flyhalf Henry Nsekuye who has played a pivotal role in his team's five-game unbeaten run managing three man-of-the-match awards and amassing over 50 points.

Nsekuye says it's all been a planned process which has worked for Impis: "The current success is mostly due to patience, belief, and trust within the team," he said ahead of Saturday's clash.

"Most people might not know that this has been a project we've been running for quite some time. We ensured that we retained our players and improved as a team as we also helped the new talent, so this was the year we set out to compete favorably."

Nsekuye's current form has been a significant factor and cannot be ignored. The outstanding man of the match performances and the scoring boot is all attributed to early preparations.

"My good start to the season is credited to the hard work I put in during the offseason, most of which started even before the National 7s series."

Impis' next run of games, starting with the Platinum Credit Heathens, will be a litmus test for them in the season.

Heathens Captain Michael Wokorach acknowledges Impis' form and the danger Nsekuye possess.

"We know that Impis have had an excellent run so far, and we can't take them for granted, but we are ready," Wokorach said.

"We are going to look for dominance in both areas, the pack and backline, and, our pack being bigger than that of impis, we have to take advantage so we can score more tries," he added.

Wokorach also quickly added that they need to get a bonus point and avoid penalties because Impis have a kicker that hasn't put a kick wrong in Nsekuye.

"We need to avoid getting many penalties because Impis have a good kicker (Nsekuye) who has been on form.

"We have not been good at kicking too, but we shall try and give it everything," he stressed before adding.

"Also, we want to earn a bonus point because we know how important it is as the season continues, so we are going all out to earn that much-needed home win."
