As the Stanbic Black Pirates prepared to take on Impis in the Nile Special Rugby Premiership on Saturday at the graveyard in Makerere, a round of applause filled the venue.

And moments later, an announcement recognizing Steven Alul, who was making his 50th appearance for the Sea Robbers, blared through the speakers.

The Scrum half then led the team onto the pitch as he waved to the cheering Pirates fans in appreciation; Alul says it's a key milestone for him in his career.

"This is a significant achievement in my career, especially because not many players make fifty appearances, more so at such a club," Alul told Pulse Sports.

The 25-year-old joined the sea robbers in 2019 from Toyota Buffaloes and admitted it's a decision he never regrets having been supported by his teammates, especially national 15's captain Ivan Magomu.

"Rugby, for me, is fun because I desire to win each time I step out. My teammates have also been so helpful, especially Ivan Magomu."

"He (Magomu) has guided me a lot, always telling us to stay focused and aggressive, which has helped me a lot," Alul added.

Stanbic Black Pirates head coach Marvin Odongo also appreciated Alul's effort with the team.

"Buju (Alul) is a very calm player, one you bring on to close the game because of his level-headedness, so congratulations to him; it's a big milestone."

The Stanbic Black Pirates wrapped up what can be termed a good week with a sponsorship contract extension and new kit with a 32-10 bonus point win over the Impis on Saturday in the Nile Special Rugby Premiership at the graveyard in Makerere.

"Not many players reach 50 appearances, so I wish to see him at 100 soon," Odongo added.

About the season thus far, Alul says as a team, the target remains to win the remaining games because the Pirates can't afford a slip-up.

"The season so far is, I would say, great, but we aim to win all the remaining games of the season, and we'll see how it ends." He added.

Pirates next face Hippos on matchday 13 at Kings Park Bweyogerere.
