Omondi has described the upcoming Safari Sevens as “crucial” in Shujaa’s quest to be ready for the Challenger Series and the Olympic games next season.
Kenya Sevens co-captain Tony Omondi has revealed the reason why he thinks the upcoming Safari Sevens invitational tournament will go a long way in helping Shujaa prepare for the upcoming Challenger Series.
Omondi has described the tournament - which is scheduled to take place at the RFUEA Grounds along Ngong Road in Nairobi from the 17th to the 19th later this month - as “crucial”, further adding that Shujaa will need at least seven tournaments to be ready for the Paris Olympics next August.
“As you all know, the Challenger Series comes before the Olympics,” Omondi said. “We need to play as many games as possible before the Challenger Series which builds up to the Olympic games,” he added.

RUGBY Shujaa co-captain Vincent Onyala reveals why Safari Sevens could help charges dominate Challenger series and Paris Olympics
Both Shujaa and Morans will be taking part in the 2023 Safari Sevens tournament set to take place at the RFUEA Grounds later this month.
“Having such a tournament will be so crucial in our preparation for the Olympics because we need at least a minimum of seven tournaments heading into Paris.”
Omondi believes that the teams that have been invited to take part in the tournament will give Shujaa the chance to test what they have been training for.
“I think any competition will be good for us because it comes down to testing what you have been training for.

RUGBY KRU seals partnership worth millions with EABL ahead of Safari Sevens tournament
Kenya Rugby Union pockets Ksh. 15 million to cover both the Safari Sevens and the Elgon Cup event this November after sealing deal with EABL.
“I would say all the teams that are there are capable of giving us what we want as a team to prepare for the upcoming tournaments.”
It is currently a rainy month in Nairobi and the tournament is likely to take place under such conditions, but Omondi believes that Shujaa will still produce a performance fans will be proud of, although he has admitted that the skill display will be affected a bit.

“We have been training with rain as well so we are preparing well enough in case that happens, in case the weather does not misbehave.”
