Kenya Sevens are looking for an improved performance at the Cape Town Sevens but must first take down Australia and Spain at the group stage.
Kenya Sevens start their campaign in Cape Town under pressure to deliver a better performance after seeing their return to the World Series bring just three points in Dubai.
Shujaa finished 10th in Dubai, having lost 15-7 to Uruguay in the ninth-place playoff, following a less than impressive group stage campaign that started with a 19-19 draw with France, followed by a 22-17 win against South Africa and 31-14 loss to Australia.
Kenya’s group stage campaign exposed their relative inexperience, especially in the draw against France when Kevin Wambua’s young charges could not hold onto their halftime lead, as two wins in the group would have taken them to the cup quarters.

Brayan Ondego: The patience and determination behind Kenya 7s’ Rising Star
Ondego is the first ever player to have earned a call up to the Kenya National 7s side Shujaa for the World Rugby Series from varsity side Zetech Oaks.
Wambua is relying on young players as he rebuilds the squad and although they are showing great quality, there are still so many areas that need improving.
Doing it at the biggest stage therefore means they have to learn while producing results to avoid getting dragged into a relegation scrap at the end of the season hence the need for a better performance in Cape Town.
Shujaa are targeting a top eight finish that will keep them in the top flight for a second successive season and then build on from that but need to be aiming for a cup quarter-final at least to get the points they need to stay up.

In Cape Town, Kenya are up against Australia again, with Spain also in Group B, and start with a clash against the side from Down Under at 12pm (Kenyan time) before taking on Spain at 3.16pm.
