Madigu dominated the national sevens circuit in 2022, making the team of the tournament which earned him a call up to the Shujaa squad for the Los Angeles and Canada Sevens.
Many people had never heard of Brunson Madigu until the opening leg of the George Mwangi Kabeberi 7s hosted by Mwamba RFC at the RFUEA Grounds in May 2022.
A delight to watch when in motion, Mandigu proved to be a crucial cog in Leos’s wheels as he powered the varsity side to the main cup final where they narrowly went down to 7s defending champions KCB RFC.
After that leg, he started gaining popularity as he kept off pulling off impressive performances that wowed fans, neutrals, journalists and coaches alike.

Shujaa were relegated from the 2022/23 World Sevens Series but the vice-captain is optimistic the side can bounce back.
The former Laiser Hill student made his National 7s Circuit debut in 2019 with Homeboyz before moving to Strathmore Leos in 2021.
At the end of the 2022 circuit, he was named in the team of the tournament and it was not surprising that his performances at the national circut eventually earned him a call up to Damian McGrath’s squad for the Los Angeles and Canada Sevens legs of the 2023 World Sevens Series.
“Playing for Shujaa has been a very big thing for me.It has been a dream for me since I was a child seeing the likes of Injera playing on TV,” Madigu said.
“It really made an impact on my Rugby career, having played in the Los Angeles 7s and the Canada 7s. It has been a good opportunity for me as a rookie. A good learning curve. I have learnt a lot in the sevens series.”
Madigu is looking forward to replicating his form from last season and is optimistic Strathmore Leos can win the overall title this season.

“We are geared up and ready. We have trained and we are confident about winning Dala Sevens. Not just the leg, but the series at large because last season, our aim was to win the national circuit but we fell short due to some minor injuries for our key players," he added.
Not only were he and his teammate George “Japolo” Ooro named in the team of the tournament, they were also capped by the national team.
Madigu believes that the experience both players gained at the world stage will go a long way in helping lead the team to glory.

“Right now we have everyone and the experience gained by both George Ooro and I will lead the team to glory.”
Shujaa hope to dot the Is and cross the Ts from their relegation from the HSBC World Series by qualifying for the Olympics which will help build a platform for being promoted again.
“Qualifying for the Olympics is a dream for any rugby player in Kenya because that is the biggest stage. That is like the largest stage. Once you play at the Olympics, you can even retire even if you are still young because you have achieved everything that a lot of people have not achieved.
“Qualifying for the olympics will really help us build up towards going to the challenger series and going back to the world series.
“SportPesa will boost us and help us gain confidence in playing the big teams. We will be playing in South Africa and I think with the support of SportPesa we are going to do well.”
