Having won the first two circuits of the series, the Sea Robbers were fancied to make it three in three by lifting the Rujumba Sevens in their own backyard.
Stanbic Black Pirates captain Isaac Massa believes his side slacked late in the game to allow Kobs score a converted try that pushed the home team out of contention for the Rujumba Sevens over the weekend.
With the home team leading 10-05 down the stretch, Ian Munyani scored a try that was converted by Joseph Aredo to give Kobs a 12-10 win and a place in the final.
The Sea Robbers were left in disbelief and only settled for third place after pummeling Plascon Mongers 24-14 in the bronze game.

RUGBY Heathens beat Kobs to win Rujumba Sevens
Lawrence Sebuliba would add another try for Heathens to lead 12-05 but substitute Karim Arinaitwe went over in the corner to cut the deficit to two points (12-10).
“I think we slacked a bit. We thought we had it, but we lost it in the last minutes,” Massa said at the end of the two-day circuit.
“We have to re-strategize and stay focused. We are still on top as we speak, but now we have to go stronger in Fort. We need to win the tournament for us to stay ahead,” he added.
Having won the first two circuits of the series, the Sea Robbers were fancied to make it three in three by lifting the Rujumba Sevens in their backyard.
But the defeat against Toyota Buffaloes in the group games on Saturday had sent a warning to Marvin Odongo’s troops before the painful semi-final defeat.

RUGBY Pirates still top despite Rujumba Sevens capitulation
With the 17 points collected, Pirates moved to 61 points and continue to set the pace with four circuits still to play.
The loss meant the Pirates would have to wait another year to win their own circuit.
Massa is positive the elusive trophy will come home next season.
“I don’t want to believe it’s a jinx. It has just skipped us for quite a while but I’m sure next year we are going to win it. I want to be positive,” the skipper noted.

RUGBY Marvin Odongo: We are not untouchable
Having helped Pirates to the Nile Special Rugby Premier League title in his first season as head coach, Odongo will be looking to add the Sevens trophy as well as the Uganda Cup later this year.

The Nile Special Rugby Premier League champions are still top of the log with 61 points, six ahead of Kobs and seven ahead of Rujumba Sevens winners Heathens.
