Omondi believes the team has prepared well after working hard and having to make sacrifices during Christmas which leaves him optimistic that it will be worth it.

Shujaa co-captain Tony Omondi has revealed how the team will approach the opening leg of the 2024 HSBC Challenger Series which will be taking place in Dubai this weekend.

Shujaa have been rebuilding ever since head coach Kevin Wambua was appointed, and have achieved impressive milestones along the way already, such as qualifying for the Summer Olympics last September.

They also won the Safari Sevens tournament in November, and are now looking on course to continue their quest to do well by qualifying back to the HSBC SVNS Series at the first time of asking.

Omondi believes the team has prepared well after working hard and having to make sacrifices during Christmas which leaves him optimistic that it will be worth it.

“I think we have prepared well after taking a short holiday for Christmas,” Omondi said as quoted on Citizen Digital.

Omondi has revealed that his teammates will take it a game at a time in Dubai to get their quest to return to the top off to a good start.

“Most of you enjoyed the full holiday with your families but for us, we were in camp training hard and preparing for the Challenger Series and we believe taking one game at a time will be crucial and taking each game as a final without underrating any team,” he added.

Shujaa will begin their Challenger Series campaign with a match against Mexico on Friday at 1:14 pm before taking on neighbours Uganda at 5:58 pm.

They will wind up their Group C action against Germany on Saturday at 12.59pm.
