Uganda still have to play Korea Republic in their last pool game on Friday before finding out whether they make it to the knockout stages.

The Uganda Rugby Cranes Sevens concluded Day One action of the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series with a comprehensive win over Jamaica Thursday afternoon.

It was a tricky start for Uganda, who found themselves trailing following a Jamaica try from kickoff.

But the response was immediate once Jamaica had the ball over the boundary from the restart.

Adrian Kasito scratched quickly and attacked before a kick-and-chase try to restore parity.

Nobert Okeny was the next to break the line and race to the try line, and the African champions carried a 12-05 lead into the halftime break.

Jamaica got another try after the restart to close the gap to 12-10.

But Okeny’s sprint from deep inside Uganda’s half ended in a try.

Okeny then set up Kasito, who went over to complete his brace as Uganda started to dominate the game.

Kisiga completed the rout with a try of his own to hand Uganda a second victory on the day.

It was a game in which Jamaica tried to dominate the collisions, but Uganda had the pace to burn and punished every mistake.

The World Challenger Series provides a pathway to the HSBC World Rugby Series Circuit, something Uganda has been pushing to get to since 2017 when they played in the World Series Qualifier in Hong Kong.
