The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has announced a significant rugby partnership with the North African counterpart, Tunisia.

Eric Butime, Vice President of Technical, orchestrated the strategic alliance, leading to both nations penning a memorandum of understanding.

This agreement paves the way for joint ventures in various rugby-related areas.

“Our union successfully established an MOU with Tunisia Rugby, thanks to the efforts of our VP of Technical. This collaboration promises to revolutionize multiple facets of the sport,” shared URU CEO Isaac Lutwama.

He further disclosed: “Our Men and Women XVs, 7s, and under-age grade teams are set to engage in return test matches. The inaugural match is scheduled for this year.”

Fans can mark their calendars for the first test match between the 20th and 29th of November. Uganda’s Men’s and Women’s XV squads will make their journey to Tunis. Conversely, the rematch is slated for early 2024 in Kampala.

A primary objective of this partnership is to bolster the frequency of test games for both teams, aiming to elevate their global rankings and competitive edge.

Lutwama remarked: “In 2022, both sides only engaged in two test matches. Our aspiration is that this alliance propels our teams to greater heights.”
