In the new proposal, the executive committee is contemplating increasing the composition to twelve and scrapping the home-and-away fixtures for a single-file format.

Uganda Rugby Union is considering a number of changes that could greatly impact the country’s top-flight league if their suggestions are passed.

The Nile Special Premiership currently comprises ten teams, one promoted from the lower ranks and another relegated at the season's end.

However, in the new proposal, the executive committee is contemplating increasing the composition to twelve and scrapping the home-and-away fixtures for a one-way affair.

“Given the need to grow the game, support clubs, and increase competition and excitement, a 12-team championship is proposed,” URU is suggesting.

That means that each team will play 11 matches as opposed to the current 18, but mini playoffs for the championship, mid-table rankings and relegation will be installed instead.

According to their proposal, Kitante Eagles and Warriors directly join the league while the relegated Rams regain their status.

It is proposed that the new competition is called the National Rugby Championship.
