The Barbarians first tasted topflight rugby in the 2018/19 season when they earned promotion but failed to contain the heat falling back instantly. Lubambula feels the team picked some lessons and is prepared to hold their ticket beyond just one season.
Walukuba Barbarians head coach Leonard Lubambula has warned his players to remain focussed as they seek to establish themselves in the Nile Special Rugby Premier League.
Walukuba qualified after the would-be debutants BOKS RFC failed to comply with requirements set by the Uganda Rugby Union Technical Committee.
They were touted to be the whipping boys of the division but have sprung some surprise performances to settle on 7th position after six outings.
“We have worked on performance progression as a team, the two wins have been part of our patience as we get some aspect of the game right with no rush,” Coach Lubambula told Pulse Sports after their consecutive wins over Rhinos (16-15) and Rams (16-11).

“We stand mid-table after week 6 and all I have told the players is not to get excited about this. The league is long and we got to master our game model.
“We got promoted and relegated in 2018/2019 which saw us losing 95 percent of the team members due to different factors and this season our target is to keep in the league and then pick it from there next season,” he added.
They meet Jinja Hippos in what is expected to be a pulsating derby on Saturday.
