Just over a month since joining Uganda Premier League giants Express Football Club, Alpha Thierry Ssali has landed his first accolade.

Son to celebrated musician Bebe Cool, Ssali clinched the Best Youth Sports Personality of the Year at the UG Teens Awards, whose winners were announced on Monday.

The youngster fended off opposition from notable figures, including his close friend Solomon Kampala, who is the son of musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine.

It should be noted that Kampala is a well-known teen athlete who has collected several accolades at the Junior level, including a 200m race bronze at the Ultimate Race Nights in Dubai in March this year.

In April, Kampala missed out on the spot to the national team for the World Championships that have recently ended in Budapest, Hungary.

The other nominees were Crested Cranes star forward Fauzia Najjemba, badminton player Husina Kobugabe and Amos Mugisha.

Meanwhile, just days back, Alpha Ssali opened his unofficial goal-scoring account for Express as they beat UPDF FC 3-0 in a preseason friendly.

He penned down a two-year employment contract with the Red Eagles in August this year after a run of seasons with boyhood club Proline FC in the FUFA Big League.

He is expected to play a starring role for his side in their run domestically in the forthcoming season.
