Joshua Cheptegei is a shining star on and off the track.
For starters, the 5,000m and 10,000m world record operate a non-government organisation in his home district using his celebrity figure to champion the local community's development.
In a tweet, the athlete celebrated the commissioning of a multipurpose hall and library at his school, the Joshua Cheptegei Junior Academy, whilst in the company of Japanese Ambassador Hidemoto Fukuzawa and Kapchorwa Woman Member of Parliament Phylis Chemutai.
"The facility was built using a grant from the Japanese Embassy in Uganda,” Chemutai said.
“The facilities will go a long way in empowering the girl child and improving the general literacy levels in the region.”
“We shall keep all in school and promote modern healthy living. This is our dream,”Chemutai added.
On the track, the Olympic and world gold medallist has had a strong comeback from an injury he suffered during the 2022 World Athletics Championships that stopped his charge to defend his 5000m world title.
Cheptegei is expected to defend his title at the Worlds in August.
