PSG star Lionel Messi has apologised for his controversial trip to Saudi Arabia that landed him in trouble with the club authorities.
In a statement released Friday evening, the Argentine superstar stated that he thought they had a day off at the time he travelled.
“I thought we were going to have a day off after the game, as always. I had this trip organised, and I couldn't cancel it,” Messi said in a short video.
I had already cancelled it before. I apologise to my teammates, and I'm waiting for what the club wants to do with me,” he added
Messi missed a training session on Monday and travelled to attend to personal business as a tourism ambassador of Saudi Arabia.
PSG slapped him with two weeks of unpaid wages.
To fuel the fire, PSG fans have also fallen out with the star, and several have held protests calling him derogative names.
Messi, whose contract expires this summer, is unlikely to renew the deal.
Reports link the star to a sensational $400m move to Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
He is also linked to a move back to Barcelona but at the sacrifice of a considerable pay cut.
