Depay released a new single titled ‘Asem Baba’ to celebrate adding a new year.
The 29-year-old Netherlands international who is of Ghanaian descent took to his social media page to announce his new single with a post that read: “f*ck the politics, you know that $hit can’t break me! 'Asem Baba' which is Ghanaian for ‘Trouble is coming’ is a 2 minutes 36 minutes rap song in which the footballer and musician speaks about his motivation to succeed despite whatever situation he’s faced with.
Depay began the song with the lyrics: “Most underrated, while I give my generation the most motivation.
“Sh** kinda outrageous how they tryna portray me….” ( seemingly aimed towards his former club Barcelona following the constant speculation over his future last season, having turned down much more lucrative offers to be at the Spotify Camp Nou).
Then he goes ahead to say “...From people that don’t even know me but they call me crazy.”
The song which was also accompanied by the visuals sees the Atletico forward dressed in a stylish formal outfit as he recounts his winter move to the Madrid club.
The clip also features Depay’s unveiling at the club as well as moments from his debut for the 2021 LaLiga champions.
Memphis Depay Form & Goals 2023
Depay arrived Barcelona in June 2021 on a two-year contract, after turning down lucrative offers in Europe to join the Catalan giants.
Depay netted 13 times in 30 appearances for Barca but his future was thrown into doubt following an injury in 2022.
Following the dismissal of Roald Koeman, Depay struggled for form and fitness, as he found it uneasy to break into Xavi’s plans.
Things got worse for the Dutchman after the arrival of Robert Lewandowski in the summer of 2022, which saw the club strip him of the number 9 jersey in favour of the prolific Polish striker.
Since then, Depay had been constantly linked with a move away from the Catalans, while seeing less game time until his switch to LaLiga rivals Atletico in January 2023.
Depay has already netted for his new club having made five appearances since his arrival.
