Nigeria bash Mikel Obi for not crediting Drogba, Mourinho and Babayaro for Chelsea's growth in Africa
Fans have reacted negatively to Obi's recent remarks regarding his role in swaying Nigerian support for Chelsea.
The former midfield player said that his and Didier Drogba's presence at Chelsea was the reason for the team's rise in popularity in Africa in a recent episode of his podcast, "Obi One."
He went on to say that Victor Moses in Nigeria inherited this impact.
Obi on the podcast said, "In Africa, they started to support Chelsea mostly because of me and Didier Drogba.
"In Nigeria, Chelsea became popular because of me and then later because of Victor Moses."
On the social media site X (previously Twitter), a large number of Chelsea fans, however, quickly refuted Obi's assertions and highlighted the accomplishments of former Nigerian left-back Celestine Babayaro.
