Falconets 1-1 Tanzania
In the first leg of their second-round African FIFA U20 Women's World Cup qualifying series match, Nigeria's Falconets and Tanzanian U20 girls battled to a 1-1 draw in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.
At the Azam Sports Complex in Tanzania's economic and industrial capital, Nigeria took the lead three minutes before the hour mark thanks to a goal from substitute Chioma Olise following a scoreless first period.
Thirteen minutes later, Asnath Ubamba scored from a free kick for the home team, leaving Nigerian goalkeeper Anderlin Mgebchi helpless.
The score stayed the same despite both sides' valiant efforts to achieve supremacy at the end of the match played on an artificial turf.
On Sunday, November 19, the Falconets and Tanzanians will play their second leg, and on Tuesday, November 19, the Nigerian squad is expected to claim victory.
The FIFA U20 Women's World Cup final competition will take place in Colombia next year, with 24 finalists instead of the 16 that competed in Costa Rica.
This indicates that the Falconets will have one more round to go following their match against Tanzania in order to qualify for the big house party in Colombia in September 2024.
