Desiree Ellis, the senior women's team coach from South Africa, clarified that the team decided to arrive in Nigeria early to help them get used to the various weather conditions in Abuja compared to their own country.
After spending a week preparing in a local camp in Pretoria, South Africa, from March 25–31, 2024, Ellis departed with 17 players.
